Traveling Exhibition
What do Albrecht Durer, Thomas Rowlandson, Frans Masereel, and Art Spiegelman have in common? They all published works of sequential art. I curated this exhibition to tie together selections from the Rare Book Collection and the Comic Art Collection. Rather than presenting an evolutionary history of visual storytelling, these selections situated woodcuts, engravings, comic strips, and graphic novels in a long tradition of word- and image-making and drew parallels among diverse genres.
The original version of this exhibition was on view in in 2013. The expanded version includes around 60 items and is currently accepting bookings for national tour by Exhibits USA, with support from the Mid-America Arts Alliance.
